TeachPrint.com is a free resource for art teachers to bring more printmaking into their art classes.
Printmaking ranks among the least common visual art disciplines taught in US schools. While many students entering undergraduate programs may have experienced drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or video in K-12 art classes, very few have had opportunities to become familiar with printmaking as an artistic medium. The goal of this project is to develop free resources for art educators—including printmaking video tutorials, brief explanations and histories of printmaking techniques, and prepared lesson materials ready for the classroom.
Through analysis of our own survey results, 1:1 discussions, and group workshops with art teachers, common themes and concerns regarding printmaking include:
Printmaking materials are too expensive.
Printmaking equipment is not available at most schools.
Teachers do not have many opportunities to receive training in printmaking processes.
Printmaking tools or materials can be unsafe.
The materials featured on this website are developed specifically with the aim to reduce these obstacles. We highlight adaptations of traditional printmaking techniques that use low-cost, easily available tools and materials that are non-toxic and safer for student artists. Our videos and lesson materials on this site are available for educators and independent learners to use for free.
